I was under impression that being on H1b u cannot do intra day trading.. you can do only routine trading ( dont know excat term ) in which u buy stock and keep it for some time and sell it .. generally 3-4 days..
I do not know of any rule that separates Daytrading from any other trading style.
It is an investment .
Anyways I am no lawyer but I can ask my Tax agent to clarify if possible

That's not correct. There is big difference between h1B annd GC and it is not for 10 years. it is for ever unless you don't fulfill some conditions.
GC is given for a period of 10 years and not for ever.

message from IV
Despite the offensive posts and badmouthing on IV site and other sites we are keeping everyone in mind when working on our lobbying effort. We had posted messages in the past about this too. IV does not advice any flower campaign etc without consulting with us. Any wrong move can potentially hurt the interest of this community and the advocacy work we are doing. Please stop posting offensive messages and stop fighting with other members of the community.

I went in personally last month and got my passport the same day through the Tatkal scheme. I just feel spending the extra $150 is way better than anxiously awaiting for it for 3 weeks. I know that they take their jobs seriously over there and the chances of your passport getting lost are bleak. However, there were still a few things that I'd have them do differently. When I told them I wanted my passport the same day, the lady at the counter gave me a shocking expression.:D Then, I was asked to wait for a few minutes just because I mentioned it was an emergency. Not sure how that works :D After 40 mins or so of waiting, when I asked the same lady what was up, she gave me an even more surprised look and asked me 'you didnt get your passport yet?' :D So, I'd advise better be safe than sorry.

My GC was approved today... I came to the US 10 years back. It's been such a long journey that it's tiring to even think about it. The backlog processing center, re-starting the GC process, Several H1b visa stamps, July fiasco rollercoster... At this point I think I am just tired - not happy, not sad...
Good luck to everyone out there!
My details:
PD: May 28th 2006

Set a meaningful standard time frame, based on employment category, within which all applications must be processed. If they could not process an application within the time frame and the application meets the all requirements, the applicant must be issued with green card irrespective of whether a visa number is available or not. Though time frame could differ, it would atleast help the applicants plan their future properly. Most importantly it makes the USCIS accountable.
Eliminate EAD renewals every year. This will reduce the paper work and hence improve performance. Unless people change their jobs, there should be no need to renew.
Come on....please wake up.

The number of cases approved during 2002-2005 was at least 2-3 times what was being approved now(when recapture was in force)... improving efficiency will not give us any more visas... if there are 100k waiting for a GC they will still keep waiting no matter how efficient USCIS is. The fact of the matter is that they can only approve 3k per category per country. recaptured visas are free of country and category caps. It will not cause divisions or issues and will help unite everyone behind one cause. Other short term issues dont help(multiyear EADs or APs and such)...they just prolong the pain and drain money every year. The queue can only be reduced, by time or attrition or more output... we can all agree which is better.
Firstly the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of un-used visa's is a clear indicator of poor USCIS efficiency. Even if the recapture visa effort bears fruit and people will get interim benefit it will do nothing to improve the efficiency of processing cases at USCIS which I think is the root cause of this problem. Yes there is also a supply and demand situation but unless USCIS improves the delays and backlogs may not stand a chance.

I am not saying that I dont like your suggestion.. They already started issuing 2 year EAD. Where are you all these days...
:D:D:D
My meeting isn't going to address tactical issues such as the ones you are disputing. It is more of a general meeting to educate staffers about the general frustrations we all experience and to offer some general suggestions on how to solve the problems. Hopefully it will lead to more meetings and perhaps at some point we can get involved in specifics when new legislation is proposed to address these issues.

IV had brought in hundreds of T - shirts to hand out. We were giving them out to everyone with a request to contribute on the web site. When we were out,
one of our volunteers, Kaushal, I think (don't know iv handle), he took out his own IV tshirt and gave it away!!
Another thing, I want to thank all the volunteer(s) who were asked to stay back to take care of the origin point and couldn't march in the rally.
---
Do you know who it was? If Kaushal is reading this, please PM me. IV would like to reward this generous gesture. We would like to send you an IV t-shirt.
As an anecdote: It took six volunteers to bring all the T-shirts to the venue.
A lot of heavy duty weightlifting at the airport check ins. A lot of labor went into all this. People who got a T-shirt, please contribute to IV to cover the cost of the T-shirts.
I remember, JazzByThe Bay missed the Monday reception because of change in plans by some volunteer who was suppose to pick him up at the Dulles airport. Jazz, who flew from California, brought the heavy T-shirt box along with his own luggage right to the Capital building. I was really surprised when he didn't complain about missing the dinner but was more concerned about the timely delivery of T-shirts. Our work is made easy by such dedicated members
cheers!

Years we have been told priority date establishes your place in the queue.
We have spurned job offers and declined the new PERM process to hold on to the priority dates.
Many are still awaiting labor certifications from the backlog elimination centers. Out comes USCIS and says everyone with a LC can file I140 & I485.
People still waiting for LC with priority dates in 2003-2004 are seeing applicants who have priority dates as late as 2007 but with approved LCs through PERM walk through to I485.
Net result, USCIS is going to be flooded with applicants enough to retrogress the priority dates 3-4 years back as early as september. (Everybody with a LC will be able to file for I485 in July). So applicants with priority dates of 2007 are going to get EAD and GC, while LC backlogged 2003 applicants to have to wait for another 3-4 years before they can even file I485.
Aint fair. Aint fair at all. How can this be. How can rules be changed in the middle of the game.
I concur with you. This isn't fair. I am in a situation where it seems I'm stranded on an island. A rescue boat is passing by and I may not be able to reach it at all.
Furthermore, my lawyers tell me that DOL may extend it's September deadline that it set for clearing backlogs. What did we gain by not going for better opportunities, and just clutching on to our priority dates?
It's far from over. It's far from being a relief. Sounds more miserable than before.
