Thank you so much for your reply. What you said was exactly what I wanted to hear. You said passport has no importance for immigration (GC) purpose. How about for H-1B extension? I do not plan to travel until I obtain the GC. Where can I find I-94 expiration date and does I-94 have to be renewed with a valid (not expired) passport? TIA.
You might have recevied I-94 at POE when you entered in USA with H1B visa (or it may be part of your h1b approval notice) For H1b extension, you need to attach the copy of the latest I-94. I dont think you need to attach copy of passport, when you extend H1B status or I-94 with in USA.

Yes, they take all copies - SSN, I797, passport everytime the license has to be renewed. More frustrating thing is they only issue a paper license which is valid only for 30 days and the card is mailed in 3-4 weeks from Tallahassee (State capital) after they perform immigration & background check. This paper license can't be used for ID purposes.
The 30-day paper license thing has been there since 2002, when I first applied. The "Temporary" label came I think about one and a half to two years back.

The only exeption is if you go for a short vacation while working in US in H1B. You should be a US citizen or LPR, to be in US payroll without physically present in US.
In spite of their gracious offer to allow me to work remote, I do foresee a need where they would require my presence (a week or so at a time). Will B1 cover a visit to the company that I am getting paid for? Or, is there a type of B visa that allows me to visit the company and actually work for it?

When you submit your passport for renewal, they usually give you a receipt with pickup date. This date is anywhere between 2 weeks to 6 weeks.
If you want you can request them to mail your new passport by paying extra $15 for mailing.
If you are going to pickup the passport by person, then you should be there between 4PM-5:15PM. Thats the delivery time.
In DC office you can not pickup anything before 2PM. Remember this

What I am worried is that even if I drive 5 hours to pick up, if they haven't processed my application (its close to 4 weeks now since I have applied), I will run out of options. On the website they claim that they will process in 5 business days. I must have tried close to 5 different phone numbers multiples times for past week or so. I have also emailed and faxed my query multiple times. Same result - No response at all. I just don't get how work is done at the embassy.

Hi friends,
We filed I485 in July.We got our Ead and Ap and my hubby is shifting jobs using AC 21. But we did not get any FP notice till now. In our EAD card, it just says fingerprint unavailable. We called USCIS twice but they said that they haven't yet generated any FP notice for us. Even our attorney hasn't received anything. We have to renew our EAD card in June..will there be a prb during the renewal becos of lack of FP?? Should we get an infopass appt for this..is it necessary?
Anyone in same situation pls lemme know.

My H1B expires in Oct 2006, I applied extension for my 7th year and got approval till Oct 2007, based on pending labor with company A. I am planning to change employer soon. They are planning to file my Labour before end of 6th year. Still I am confused. My 7th year starts from Jan 2007, will this H1B be valid even if company A is withdrawing my application or even if the company closes?
I saw in the earlier posting that 8th year extension is valid even if the employer withdraws the pending LC
I heard for someone else that my 7th year H1B becomes invalid when the company A withdraws or closes.
Please advice. I really appreciate your help.

But 10 years is a long time to wait on a temporary visa to get your social security back.. There were some discussions to reduce this to 3 years but that talk is dead now.
In India, the best part is 100% compulsory employer contribution. But
Indian PF sucks with rising inflation and lack of accountability.
And we all know how the employers would "Package" their "contribution".
This latest development will sting Indian origin GC holders and US citizens who go back to work in India and MNC employees working abroad.

No point worrying over past. Go ahed and file a AR11 ASAP to make sure from now on USCIS has your updated address. In case in future this becomes an issue then contact a lawyer and try to resolve it.
But moving forward all non immigrants as well as GC holders should make sure they do not miss this important obligation to inform USCIS within 10 days of move. It is easy process and saves lots of trouble later on.
