Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis' magical transformation from geeky Neville to red carpet hunk

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Hasn't he grown into a handsome young man: Matthew Lewis at the New York premiere of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 on Monday

Ten years ago, Matthew Lewis was cast as the bumbling, plump Hogswarts student Neville Longbottom.

But after going through an awkward teenage phase through the Harry Potter films, the actor has really grown up into a handsome young man.

Looking back at the first Harry Potter film in 2001, it's unlikely fans would have predicted clumsy Neville would turn out to be the franchise's heart-throb.

Awkward youth: Lewis as Neville in the first Potter film in 2001 (left) and at the 2005 premiere of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire in 2005 (right)

But attending premieres and junkets to promote the last movie Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part II, fans have been amazed by his transformation.

Looking every inch the Hollywood hunk in his smart black suit at the New York premiere last week, the Yorkshireman looked a far cry from the plump schoolboy with the crooked teeth in the first film.

To play Hogwarts' student Neville in the eight films, Lewis wore yellow false teeth, shoes two sizes too big and wore prosthetics behind his ears to make them stick out more.

Throughout JK Rowling's books and film adaptations, Neville was a subject of ridicule by school villain Draco Malfoy and his cronies

Centre of attention: Lewis looked like he was enjoying meeting the fans at the Toronto premiere of Harry Potter on Tuesday

As Potter fans will know, Neville ends up turning quite heroic in the final and ends up surrounded by admirers - catching the attention of Luna Lovegood.

In a recent interview, Lewis admitted he found Luna - and girls in general - more scary than the evil Voldemort.

He told SheKnows.com: 'Neville and Luna are both outcasts when they’re younger. It was endearing for two inspiring characters. Both come from humble beginnings, people think that they’ll never amount to anything and yet they both do.

'But, Luna is a lot more scary than Voldemort, I think [laughs]. Girls in general are scarier than Voldemort. It might have been the next challenge for Neville.'

He might not be a sports star but Justin Beiber is such a huge sports fan he managed to get an invite to the 2011 ESPY Awards last night.

And it seems that the Canadian singer wasn't just content with mingling with elite athletes but wanted to look like a professional too - sporting a racing driver jumpsuit as he took to the stage to present an award.

Racy couple: Justin was dressed in a sparkling V- necked jumper while his girlfriend wore a pair of shorts a corset top and a lace shirt which made for a sexy look

The Canadian singer arrived at the bash in a sparkling V necked jumper and a pair of shiny black trousers as he walked the red carpet solo.

Inside the awards ceremony at the Nokia Theatre LA Bieber took his seat next to his girlfriend Selena Gomez and the pair were seen cosying up together.

And Danica replied: ‘Just put them down by your side Ricky Bobby,’ alluding to Will Ferrells character in the film Talladega Nights.

But Selena certainly seemed to like her boyfriend’s style and was seen cosying up to him as they watched the rest of the awards – and she wasn’t the only one.

The gloves are off! Simon Cowell mocks American Idol in cheeky X Factor USA ad

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Pretty in pink: Cowell's sweater and sincere gaze echo the demeanour of Idol judge Jennifer Lopez in the spoof

Applauding and praising tuneless auditions, cosying up to fellow judges, driving an environmentally-friendly car and wearing a pink jumper - it all adds up to Simon Cowell's worst nightmare.

But there is a seam of reality in the first X Factor USA promo, because the crew are cheekily sending up Cowell's former U.S. show, American Idol.

The action opens in an audition room that looks suspiciously like the hotel room used in the hit show, and the panel of judges are dressed in pastel hues, a favourite palette of Jennifer Lopez.

Emotive: Nicole Scherzinger mirrors Lopez' encouraging hand gestures

An immediate focus on positivity is evident - which was the all pervading force of the last Idol series, even between the judges, thanks to the sardonic British producer's departure.

Simon, clad in cotton candy cashmere, leads the way by lavishing praise upon awful acts and holding hands with Paula Abdul, while all the judges make emotional gesticulations, like the Idol Panel.

But perhaps the most obvious dig is Paula Abdul's opening remark that the young girl who murders Tomorrow from the film Annie has 'spirit.'

Parody: The X Factor crew send up their Idol counterparts

Detail: Even the drinks on the judges' table in Idol was echoed in the skit

This is most definitely Simon Cowell setting out his stall, the promo implicitly promises that the X Factor USA will have the edge over all over other talent shows.

And as the X Factor is on Fox, the same network as Idol, it's a typically audacious piece of bombast from the celebrated producer.

Rude awakening: With his face in his hands, Simon Cowell wakes up in his luxurious bedroom after a nightmare about the X Factor USA

Thank God for that! A look of relief on his face, Simon snaps back into reality

The promo opens with Simon sitting with his fellow X Factor judges Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and L.A Reid, wearing a pink cable knit jumper.

A small girl then presents herself to them and starts to sing Tomorrow from Annie very badly.

But rather than cut her off after a couple of notes, Simon patiently waits for her to finish, claps and says, 'That's what I've been waiting for.'

Abdul, to Simon's left, praises the plucky child's spirit, and as the camera pans to the dream-breaker, there's a sharp intake of breath.

No more Mr Nasty Guy? Simon Cowell wears pink and applauds contestant in the new preview for X Factor USA

Times a changing: The new cuddly Simon gets a kiss from Paula Abdul in the new promo

New Look: The panel. including Simon, Nicole and L.A Reid appear to have gone soft

Lucky girl: The awful rendition of Annie would usually have earned her a rejection

A New Decade: 'It's not about me, it's about them,' Simon insists

Eat my dust: The back of Simon's Bugatti, with personalised number plate is seen whizzing past

Jet Set: The team mean business as they are seen strutting away from their private jet

Welsh boy done good: Host Steve Jones (far right) joins the team as they head into the studio

Primed and ready: The four judges will be ready to find a new pop star when the show air on September 21

'We wanted to make something which showed what the show ‘could’ have been, my nightmare basically, then transitioning into what we really are and I thought it would be fun to make that.

'I literally really imagined my worst nightmare, and I put myself into that place and it was that.. Me, loving this song, Paula and I holding hands and I’m now turning into Paula everything is just... awful!. I just suspended my disbelief!'

The X Factor has it's two-Night Series premiere Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8/7c and Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8/7c on FOX.

Tulisa knows how to get the X Factor as she copies Cheryl Cole's fishtail plait for Liverpool auditions

By SARAH BULL

Copycat: Tulisa Contostavlos sported a fishtail plait almost identical to Cheryl Cole's as she arrived at the X Factor auditions in Liverpool today

It must be hard living in the shadow of previous X Factor judge Cheryl Cole.

So Tulisa Contostavlos could be forgiven for using Cheryl for style inspiration as she takes to the panel for this year's sereis.

The 23-year-old singer arrived at the X Factor auditions in Liverpool today sporting a side fishtail plait almost identical to Cheryl's style last October.

Lady in red: Tulisa looked stunning in her red pleated dress, which she teamed with black mesh sandals

And it's not the first time Tulisa has taken inspiration from Cheryl's previous looks, as she was seen wearing a hooded dress similar to the ones favoured by Cheryl as she took to the stage at T4 On The Beach over the weekend.

But despite her copycat hairstyle, Tulisa, who is celebrating her 23rd birthday today, looked stunning in a chic red pleated dress and black mesh heeled sandals as she posed for photographers outside the auditions.

Meanwhile, Tulisa's fellow judge Kelly Rowland also caused a stir as she arrived for the auditions.

Happy birthday! Tulisa, who turns 23 today, was greeted with a huge cheer as she got out of her car

Kelly, 30, showed off her incredible figure in a pair of tiny floral shorts, teamed with a blue vest top and navy jacket, teamed with huge orange platform sandals and a huge pair of sunglasses.

Arriving in the city, Kelly tweeted: 'Alright Liverpool... Bring it on!'
She later added: 'Everyone wish my fellow #XFactor judge @officialtulisa a happy happy birthday!!!'

The girls' fellow X Factor judges Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh also cut a smart appearance as they arrived at Liverpool's Echo Arena for the auditions.

Leggy lady: Kelly Rowland also caused a stir in her outfit - a pair of floral shorts with a blue vest top and platforms

Last night, Tulisa was photographed playing it safe in a black dress and tights as she celebrated her birthday out in Liverpool.

Tulisa teamed her skater-style dress with a pair of huge sunglasses and swept her long brown hair to the side as she headed out with members of the X Factor team including presenter Dermot O'Leary.

Later in the evening, X Factor presenter Dermot tweeted his followers a picture of Tulisa enjoying her birthday cake with the caption, 'Happy birthday young lady!'

Greeting the fans: The former Destiny's Child singer looked delighted as she waved to fans and signed autographs

Making her way in: Kelly waves as she arrives at Liverpool's Echo Arena for the next round of auditions

He later added: 'That, by the way is Tulisa. And it's her birthday, and it's a cake etc etc.'

Meanwhile, despite Tulisa's profile being increased dramatically since her inclusion on the X Factor judging panel, it seems she is struggling to adjust to her elevated celebrity status.

She revealed to her Twitter followers yesterday: 'So apparently I have 2 bring security with me if I go ibiza this year? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Here come the boys: Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh looked smart in their outfits as they arrived

Posing up: Louis smiled widely as he had a picture taken with a group of fans

'I think they must be doing it in case any1 starts with me and they have 2 hold me back 2 stop me getting in2 trouble!'

She later added: 'This year I shall b sporting boxer shorts on my head instead of thongs, even more gold chains & a new tat saying CHAVTASTIC on my forehead!'

But while Tulisa might be struggling to comprehend her elevated level of fame, it's working well for her band N-Dubz.

Understated: The night before, Tulisa didn't quite have the X Factor in her plain black outfit as she celebrated her birthday in Liverpool

Little Monsters! Lady Gaga gets eggs thrown at her as she leaves a club in Sydney after night of partying

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Mobbed: Lady Gaga got swarmed by fans as she left a nightclub in Sydney, Australia last night

She is used to fans screaming and cheering her name, desperate to get close enough to touch her.

But last night Lady Gaga was the victim of some much more negative attention.

The singer had eggs thrown at her as she tried to leave the ARQ night club in Sydney, Australia, after a night of partying.

Good night: Gaga smiled as she made her way back to the car accompanied by a team of bodyguards

Despite the crazy situation, which didn't actually see the 25-year-old get hit by the projectiles,Gaga maintained her composure and kept a big smile on her face as she was escorted through the crowd to a waiting car.

However, one man in the crowd was in fact hit by and egg.

The Born This Way singer rocked a risqué black leather outfit which left little to the imagination as she spent the night bar-hopping in the Australian city.

Why my Suri doesn’t wear a coat in the cold, by Katie Holmes

By ANDREA MAGRATH

Pretty in pink: Katie Holmes covers the new issue of InStyle magazine and discusses criticism of her parenting of Suri

Her daughter is one of the most photographed people, let alone children, on the planet.

So on occasion, it is inevitable that the cameras are going to witness Suri Cruise doing, or wearing, something that causes other parents to raise an eyebrow - from the now-infamous 'penis' sweets the five-year-old unknowingly selected in a store, to her penchant for heels.

And now Katie Holmes has explained the story behind the much-criticised pictures of Suri out in New York in freezing winter temperatures without a coat.

Battle: Katie defends pictures of her daughter without a coat in winter, saying she knows the five-year-old will inevitably ask for the coat 'after a block of walking'

Speaking to InStyle magazine, the 32-year-old admits to being red-faced over the pictures.

'Recently, Suri and I were taking a walk and a fight got started because it was cold outside and she didn't want to wear her coat,' she tells the magazine. 'My philosophy is, well, fine, because after a block of walking you're going to ask me for your coat.

'So the pictures of her [without a coat in cold weather] are sort of embarrassing, but I said, "Suri, I'll take the hit. Just put it on when you get cold".'

'Manly' romance: The actress reveals that Tom's taste in romance involves taking her flying in fighter jets

Katie insists she doesn't feel pressure to give Suri a little brother or sister. 'We already have a very big family; a full household with cousins who are over a lot,'

she says. 'My biggest thing is making sure she's fully taken care of and doing well.'
The Mad Money star reveals how the family unit deals with their hectic

schedules: 'We Skype, and we try not to go for a week without seeing each other,' Katie tells the magazine.

'We're also very good at setting up camp wherever we go.'

No babies yet: Katie denies pregnancy rumours and insists she does not feel the pressure to give Suri a brother or sister
