Educated guess would be "big" iPod sales will slump whilst the Nanos & Shuffles will skyrocket. At these new lower price points that reads pretty UN-educated to me. On secopnd thought though since many of US - not the general public - are waiting for the 640x360 widescreen video iPod, this would be a miss.
I htink it's pretty lousy of Apple not to provide the firmware update to allow original 5G Video iPods to load and play Baseline H.264 640x480 self-encoded video. I'm mad about it.

people need to catch up, why do people keep asking about crisis... it is old news in the graphical world....

Sorry, but you're totally wrong.
Play(load a level under medium settings), and PLAY are two different things;) There is NO MAC (much less the mGPU blessed iMac) that can max Crysis (@ native res) at livable frame rates(>30)...especially not at 2560x1440.

Some ACD love? I need to buy soon.
Hear hear, but its unlikely, they just updated the current models with more brightness and contrast ratio. I doubt they'd change it so quickly.

Great news as I have been riding out my 2007 iMac and was tempted to buy one a few weeks ago. Glad I waited and will be first in line for the new iMac's! Wonder what problems we will face though? As it seems all new launches have. Anyone want to buy a Mint 24" 2007 with a 500gb HD (Fall 2007) Ati radeon 2600 Pro?

LaCie 1TB Little Big Disk (http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=11625), available Summer 2011. 10Gb/s transfer rate; copy an HD movie in 30 seconds.
LOL! You might want to ask them what the data rates on the actual hard drive (or drives) in the case is. LaCie makes nice stuff, but it's quite gimmicky to only talk about interface transfer rates when the real performance is dependent on the hard drives.

Hello everyone! I've been a daily MacRumors.com nerd for about 2 years now, but I never took the time to register until today...
I am definitely going to buy an Apple phone when and if it becomes available. I'm sure they'll get the design and interface right, as they always do. I saw someone post something on here (or maybe it was another recent thread) claiming their friend saw the Apple phone branded as a Samsung at a mobile phone convention just recently (which I totally doubt, they would never bring it out in public before release)... I think they're talking about this phone:
I love the design of it, but I'm really not sure if Apple would abondon the click wheel on their first step into the cell phone market. One part of me wishes they would go with a full touch screen, but I think the click wheel will make it easier to market to the masses of iPod lovers.
touch screen dialing sucks, not being able to feel buttons is actually a big deal, even though most numbers are dialed through contacts list.
consumers won't fly for the touch screen thing, we have to remember apple is targeting the average american consumer, not us techno-nerdy macrumors folk

What about the iPod mini or shuffle?
In retrospect, I should've said product and not just iPod. That's where they release all the toys.

Im not saying the AppleTV 2 is useless for everyone, for many of the dumb masses who are locked into iTunes already its probably the best thing since sliced bread, and really its only advantage is a cheap price and movie rentals, in glorious 720P, but if I want to feed my 42" 1080p plasma with subpar 720P video I could use the xbox or PS3 sitting under the TV, which I also dont bother with. For audiophiles or moviephiles it doesn't cut it.
I used to work in the streaming media industry from 2002-2009. Among other things, I did some work on the Netgear MP-101 (http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2499) which sold fairly well. We always got the latest gear for competitive analysis, including Sonos systems and other high-end solutions costing thousands of dollars.
Strictly IMO, proprietary, expensive closed ecosystems such as Sonos (and there are/were worse) are a dead end and naturally once you've bought into it you have a vested interest in its survival. The same thing can be accomplished, more cheaply, with products from mixed vendors supporting an open system like UPnP/DLNA.
The exception is Apple -- while their solution is proprietary and the ecosystem is largely closed, it is a massive closed ecosystem (Macs, iDevices) and Apple keeps the "dumb rendering points" such as the Airport Express and ATV2, cheap. My company tried several times to open doors with Apple, to be their gateway into the UPnP/DLNA world. Apple's only interested in what benefits Apple -- i.e. how does supporting UPnP/DLNA help Apple sell hardware? So Apple will always be a closed ecosystem but it's a very very diverse and healthy one.
Sonos is dead, they just don't know it yet. When you can get something that does 90% of what it does for 10% of the price, you're dead.

The phone's look is indeed very similar.
Of course, Samsung's Android phone has many additional items such as their pulldown notification shade with built-in radio and orientation lock controls... which many people would love for Apple to copy.
The tablet is a different matter, and doesn't have the same look.

I don't know if i can. Give me some time. But doesn't it make sense that if u stop using something that killed disease spreading insects that the insects will continue to spread the disease?
What if the DDT destroys frogs and kills birds? They are two of the mosquitoes biggest enemies. That will obviously only make the problem worse, won't it?
Malaria is a big killer but mosquito nets can make an enormous difference as well as education about what causes malaria.
Reaching for a can of toxic chemicals isn't always the best solution. If we don't approach a problem holistically, all we do is create more problems down the road.
Do you know what PCBs are? Did you know that small Aleutian Islands qualify for EPA cleanup (http://juneauempire.com/stories/081197/toxins.html)even though no PCBs have ever been on the island?
Higher levels of PCBs were found in otters taken from Adak than from otters taken off the coast of California, the scientists said. Their findings were reported in a study published last month in the journal Marine Pollution Bulletin.
Enough DDT was found in egg samples from eagles on Kiska Island to indicate the pesticide may be harming the bird's ability to reproduce in one of the nation's most remote areas, scientists said.

Dude. You have a double standard. If Apple were to infringe on the copyright of someone else, you would be here pitchfork in hand screaming for blood.
If you look on other sites like macnn, you will see that the airfoil app does not only display Apple icons but rather the icon of whatever browser is configured as the main browser. They cannot make the claim that they have to right to use the Firefox, Camino or Omniweb icon in their app. It is not "streaming" the icon data, it is copied over and displayed superimposed on another icon which is presumably an internal OS X bundle. The audio is streamed but those icons are copied over and superimposed on each other on the phone. That is a clear violation of the IP of other programs in a manner that is not consistent with use on the mac it was pulled from.
Mozilla's trademark policy appears to allow this sort of use:
http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/policy.html
More importantly, each of these companies is likely to argue for trademark infringement/unfair competition, not copyright infringement, particularly when the icon is trademarked (which is a different case than the Mac icons we are talking about).
It is permissible to use a trademark so long as there is no confusion as to source. That is, if people using the RA software are likely to think that somehow Mozilla (or the other companies) are the source of the software, this would be impermissible. It is permissible to use trademarks in a descriptive sense - i.e.: this icon means that the thing you are connecting to is the product Mozilla. There is also a fair use/non-trademark use defense. As long as the message I am sending is not "this product IS mozilla" it probably is not trademark infringement.

And really, would you rather have the information stored on the device or logged by Google?

The point I was trying to make is that high commuting costs means people have to make tough choices about their discretionary spending.
I agree with that, but I fail to see how you have the wrong priorities like KingYaba suggested.
Gas is a much bigger drain then iPhones on a families monthly bills. So dealing with gas costs(moving closer, buying a smaller car, driving less, etc) is a much easier way to saving money the canceling something small like the 20 dollar data plan from the first iPhone.

Samsung can easily be replaced. Apple doesn't need them.
you have that backwards.
Samsung can replace Apple as a client. Apple can not replace Samsung as a supplier.
Reason Samsung can do it is because demand for LCD, flash chips ect is out pacing supply.
Apple can not replace Samsung for the same reason. no one else has the capacity to fill those orders.

This just threw a spanner into my plans !
I've got a late 2007 non-unibody MBP - the "ultimate" which I've been updating as much as possible (Hybrid SSD 512Gb drive, 4Gb memory, etc etc) - I love my MBP but my applecare warranty just ran out last month. Which, I thought, was plenty timely so I could get the new MBP that just refreshed - quad core, 16Gb RAM seems like a LOT more power !
But, I didn't "jump" immediately - I always wait a couple of months to see what issues develop with the product line (the 17" range seems to have some graphics issues evidently, which seem to be resolved now) - BUT, with this rumor, do I plump down $4k for a maxed-out MBP now or wait until this new case design ?!?!?!
My current MBP is working great. The keyboard has a sticky "D" key, but apart from that, its been the best laptop I've ever owned, and the second longest I've owned before a refresh (the prior record holder was a Sony Vaio PCG-V505BX which I used/upgraded/refreshed a full 5 years before needing to upgrade !)
So what do I do ? I wasn't planning on buying the MBP until next month, after I got back from vacation...
